LOCATION: Cairo, with networks in Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sudan and Lebanon

TARGETS: Egyptian officials and U.S. and Egyptian facilities

DESCRIPTION: This group has been active since the 1970s and is a close partner with bin Laden. Its primary goals: to overthrow the Egyptian government and attack U.S. and Israeli interests in Egypt and elsewhere.

MAJOR ATTACKS: Assassinated Egypt's Anwar Sadat in 1981; bombed Egyptian embassy in Islamabad in 1995; in 1998, failed in bid to attack U.S. embassy in Albania.
